Photo Museum Ireland encourages learning and promotes appreciation of and active engagement with photography as a creative art form. Education is an integral function within society and will do all within its power to promote its educational role to both its formal and informal audiences.

As part of our mission, we seek to engage children, young people and marginalised communities in meaningful educational programmes that will increase their understanding and appreciation of photography, encourage and facilitate active engagement with the medium of photography and help shape our future programmes.

  • Photo Museum Ireland provides a multi-layered, diverse and unique opportunity for lifelong learning to all visitors to our space online through our digital platforms.

  • We encourage educational activity for all visitors to engage, interact and respond to a broad range of photographic practices across all our programmes.

  • We encourage hands-on learning in the museum through the provision of informal learning through visits to exhibitions to hands-on formal learning activities such as talks, symposia, learning courses and hands-on workshops.

  • Our online education resources offer learning opportunities for wide-ranging audiences through the provision of curated strands including thematic presentations, education resources and artists’ features.

  • Community and outreach projects across Ireland offer opportunities to engage wider audiences through touring exhibitions, events and projects.

  • Our artist-led photography courses and workshops offer opportunities for wider audiences to develop their photographic skills. Our courses range from short courses for beginners through to 4-week night classes and advanced workshops.
